Horizons

What lies upon that distant horizon?
That sea to shore of crossing Poseidon
What storms we weather, what treasures we gain?
What losses we face in pursuit of a name?

Is love forgotten in all that we do?
As we set our sails into the blue,
Should we look back at the islands we make?
As we take on water at every mistake.

And what of the siren’s call in our head?
The whispers of those who fill us with dread
And those who we pass and give not a crumb
The reflection of us that we could become.

Our journey is long, our ocean is vast,
Our prayer to the stars that no storm will last
Our lifelong story is what we have bled,
Those distant horizons we sail in our head.
