DI came down 08:30. I went up the town to buy some boiled ham and bread rolls. Later on, in the morning, we had a nice lunch with the Bakewell slices that DI bought down. The weather is still mild. Went to mow the lawns but decided to wait till Friday, by that time most of the work should be finished.

I cleaned most of the house today, downstairs, so I will leave sometime to finish the back and front lawns on Friday. Di is getting on with the decorating and he said that he would/should be finished by Friday. Weather a bit of a cold wind today, I thought, but still sunny spells with it.

Racing from Aintree, let’s see if we can get them running for us. No, I did not get any horses in the first three, I had a good run from one of them as he unseated his rider at the 21st fence, not bad as there were only 30 to jump. Never mind there is next year to try and sort them out. DI went home at 5 o’clock, he said that he should be finished on Monday. DK came down and we went down the Ship Inn at Saul. Weather good.

Went down to tidy V’s grave. Took some flowers. The grave looks nice now, the flowers are looking bright now they are getting water every week. Weather not too bad, a cold wind spoiled a nice day. Went for a walk round by the sewage works, then under the railway bridge, up the hill, round the bend, and down passed Godsell’s Farm, as it used to be, then on passed the road and home. I know this route as I used to jog round it so many times before.

DI came down at 08:00, stayed till 5:00 as he wanted to finish the job. Today the weather is not too bad but the wind is still cold. After DI left I tidied up and had some tea then did some reading about the 1914-18 war. What a waste of lives it all was and as usual poor old Joe Soap was left holding the baby again! Never mind, like the people say, that should be the last one this decade.

Went to work on the lawns today, the front one first, as the weather did not look very good as the clouds were gathering and it looked like rain. Anyway, I finished the front lawn and started on the back one. I cut about 3/4s of the lawn when the bloody mower said, that’s it, that’s yer lot and packed in. I dismantled it and put it away in the shed. I’ll try again in the morning. I did, but all it did was make smoke, so I thought that’s an electric job, I will have to get a new one. Our DK came down and as he was going to see the dentist, he said he would take me up to Focus after he had seen him. I bought a similar one but a later model, if it lasts me out I should worry! Anyway I shall have to wait till it comes in as they had run out of stock.

Cleaning today or tiding up, take your pick. Cleaned upstairs and all downstairs, moved things about etc.… It looks a lot better now. A few ironing things had to be done too, shirts etc…. Also sorted the bedding out. The weather is sunny with the wind in the wrong place, I’m afraid, w/w, maybe it will change later on.

Shopping again for bits and pieces. Got some compost from the Co-op, tried to fill all six pots but there was not enough so I will have to git some more. DI came down and gave me Nk’s mobile number, will phone her later. Our Dk came down to take me to see Forest Rovers. I don’t know, every time I go to see them they do not score a goal, this time it was a cup final and they did not score a goal, neither did the other side. It went to penalties and we lost but one day, who knows, they may win, probably.

Good Friday. No shopping or cleaning up etc.…. Will put it off until tomorrow, only washing will have first priority today. Had my dinner of mash spuds, egg and Yorkshire pudding plural as I made some myself but made too many, will have to make two meals out of them. The weather is dry but the wind is still n/w ily. Watched the telly for a couple of hours, one about Jesus and the other one about the Irish Riverdance. I had seen the one about Jesus before as it was made in 1965 – Riverdance is quite new and makes you want to get up and try to copy them.

Not much on the box with regards to racing. Had a bet, I had something to come back, so all was not lost. DI had a bet too as he came down, did not stay long as he and V were going to Nk’s. The weather was bright but the wind still in the wrong place n/w, will have to get some more compost.

Went down early to see V as R was coming to pick me up and take me to Hardwicke church. The service was good with the children rounding the service off with some good singing. We then went back to R’s to pick M up then proceeded onto Wn’s. The meal was very nice and plenty of it. Re did well with the cream and jelly. All in all a good day.

Went up the town had a look round but not many shops open. A good job I got my bread on the Saturday. I am still waiting for my new mower as they said, when I bought it, that the model I chose would be in the store in a week or so. They will give me a ring when this happens. Weather good.

DI and V came down it was a nice day, the best one this week. They did not stop long. I thought they looked down in the dumps a bit, I should have known, shouldn’t I with DI saying have you got all the birthdays marked down on your calendar? When they had gone the penny dropped, hell, it’s their wedding anniversary and I never sent them a card. S.O.S. With that I went up the shop and bought one and off I went up to Leonard Stanley. I rang the bell at our DI’s house but I could not get anyone to the door so I put the letter through the door and went to go through the gate just as V came to the door. She said DI has gone up the club so I went up toward the club, as I was about 50 yds off I met DI, so we went into the King’s Head and had a pint. Nice one. After that walk, DI and I then went back to see V who said I will take you back home. I think my card received a bit of a smile. I hope so!

Weather dull and overcast, could be rain on the way. Cleaned the kitchen of all the things that needed cleaning, placing them in the cupboard boxes and moving them upstairs out of the way then DI can get on with the job of painting. Going to bed as it has been a long day. I had my best meal today, liver and onions with mash potatoes, nice.

Weather turning to rain. Re’s birthday she is 5yrs old, seems like only yesterday that she was born! DI has started work on the kitchen now. I am waiting to hear from Focus DIY stores that my new mower has arrived as the grass won’t stand still and with the rain due any day now I shall have to look sharp and tackle it.

Went up the town today bought some items in the food line also a new cartridge for my pen, which I am writing with. DI still painting, I understand he will finish early as he has an appointment with the dentist. R and Re came down had some tea and a chat then after R left DK came down, he said what a nice job DI has made so far on the house. Raining! Now.

Racing from Ayr-Scottish Grand National. No such luck, backed three one N/R. Weather, rain on and off. Did some shopping bought Nk a birthday card. I think she will be coming down on Monday so I will give her the card. Then Mn & Jh came down, that’s V’s cousin, we had a good old chat as they are pensioners too.

Went down the grave to place some flowers on and cut the grass and tidy up in graveyard. The weather is lovely if it wasn’t for that wind, N/W, it would be a really nice day. I have never see so many dandelions blooming in the churchyard before, one carpet of yellow from gate to gate. DK came down to lend me his mower as mine is broken and I am awaiting another new one. Hope it won’t be too late in arriving. Watching the football, Man U & Everton.

Di still painting. The weather is good, bright and dry. Lawns are cut, back and front, will have to watch the weather as I want to use my new mover to keep the lawns tidy. DI cut the lawns this time as he moves quicker than me. DK came down to collect his mower, didn’t stop long as he had just finished work and he wanted to get home and have some tea!

DI still working on the kitchen. Nk came down to see me. Was nice to see her looking so well. We all had our eats on the back lawn, had a chat then Nk left to visit her relations, she said she will be back later. The weather is warm and sunny. There is still a lot of work to be done before the house is finally finished.

Same as usual. DI still painting the downstairs rooms, kitchen this time around. Weather not too bad but the wind is still in the northwest. Had some post today, telephone bill wants paying. If I could shout loud enough and hear properly I would answer some local calls myself, that would be the day, eh! Windows need cleaning, will have to get a move on later.

England expects but lately it sounds a bit hollow. Weather improving, sunny spells and dry too. Had my lunch down the Bay Tree, not too bad either. DI has nearly finished the kitchen he will start the dining room tomorrow. Went and bought a new mower then DI took me to the Whitminster Hotel to have fish and chips. When I arrived back he had already cut the grass around the house with the new mower.

DI started the dining room as I arranged to go out and get the lunch. I will have to write these entries every day now as I don’t like to catch up on things and not just try to fill in the pages with things that don’t take place! Weather turning to rain, looks like it is in for the week

Racing day again. DI didn’t stop very long today as he had to see the vet about their cat. Weather still cold with the wind in the north-west. Just heard about Vv in hospital, will have to go and see him.

Went up the Co-op for some flowers then went to place them on V’s grave. Did not take my shears or small fork as I thought the grave would be tidy but I was wrong as the latest rainfall has made the grass grow again. Will have to take care of it later. R asked me down for dinner, it was very nice and plenty of it, also the red wine was really good too. She also sorted my curtains and bedding out.

DI still working on the house while I went up the town to see if I could get an early train down to Gloucester, as I found out there was one at 9:28, as I wanted to go and see Vv, that’s my brother-in-law who is in hospital. The weather’s picking up now with rain showers and no dry spells. Hope the weather is better tomorrow.

Weather fine and dry with sunny spells. Went up to Homebase to get another curtain rail and paint the other items. DI is now working on the last room. I don’t think it will be long now before he finishes the final touches to the work in hand. I had a look at V’s buggy to see if it needed charging up but it was partly charged so there was no need to connect it up. Will have to write to my sister!

Lovely day today. DI came down to finish the dining room and to put up the curtains, also the fixing rod and brackets, while I, myself, went shopping to get something for our lunch – today it will be corn beef sandwiches with onion slices and lettuce, nice. I will have to start looking for our Kt’s address as I have packed it away and am still trying to find it.
